Egg Hunt
Saturday, March 27, 2010
Egg Hunt at 10 a.m.
Pancake Breakfast from 10 a.m. until Noon
The annual Kirtland Egg Hunt occurs two Saturday's before Easter. The hunt promptly begins outdoors at 10:00 am for Kirtland children 11 and under (adult chaperones required). Kids should bring their Easter baskets (or a bag) to collect eggs with. Prize baskets are awarded to the finder of the Golden Egg and the child who collects the most eggs in each age group.
Come inside after the hunt for kid tattoos, stickers, live rabbits, games, craft, a visit with the Easter Bunny, and pancake breakfast (for a nominal fee). The Kirtland Seniors host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon.
In the case of inclement weather, the outdoor hunt is cancelled and eggs are handed out indoors on a first-come, first-served basis until they are gone. However, the pancake breakfast, a visit with the Easter Bunny, and all of the aforementioned children's activities will still take place indoors. Registration is not required. Just show up.
A Call For Volunteers! The Community Center is in need of middle and high school students to help out with the egg hunt. Helpers are needed with the pancake breakfast, craft area, and games. Call the Community Center (256-4711) and sign up! Volunteering for this event qualifies as community service time and volunteers receive a letter.
Junior Olympics
Kirtland children aged 7-14 are invited to participate in the annual Junior Olympics Track and Field meet. The meet includes traditional track and field events and supervised practices are held prior to the event to teach kids specific event techniques. First place finishers in each event and age group qualify to compete in the county meet. The city meet is typically on a Saturday, the weekend before Father’s Day at the Kirtland High School track, with the county meet on the last Wednesday in June.
Officer Beall’s Kirtland Safety Town
Safety Town is a national safety awareness program designed to teach young children how to prevent accidents and how to react in dangerous situations. It is intended for children who are entering kindergarten in the fall. Safety Town is one week long, from 9:00-11:30 each day with a graduation ceremony and family picnic on the last day. Call For Counselors! The Recreation Department is in need of a dozen middle (8th grade and above) and high school students to work as Safety Town counselors. Counselors earn $75 and fifteen hours of community service time upon completion of the program. Applications are available at the Community Center and due by April 30.
