The annual Kirtland Egg Hunt occurs two Saturday's before Easter. The outdoor hunt begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. for Kirtland children age 10 and younger (adult chaperones required). Kids should bring Easter baskets (or a bag) to collect eggs. Prizes are awarded to the child that finds the Golden Egg and the child who collects the most eggs in each age group.
Join us after the egg hunt for a visit with the Easter Bunny, live rabbits, games, crafts and a pancake breakfast (for a nominal fee). The Kirtland Seniors host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to Noon.
In case of inclement weather, the outdoor hunt is cancelled and eggs are handed out indoors on a first-come, first-served basis until they are gone. However, the pancake breakfast, a visit with the Easter Bunny, and all other activities continue indoors. Registration is not required. Just show up.
A Call For Volunteers! The Community Center is in need of middle school and high school students to help with the egg hunt. Helpers are needed with the pancake breakfast, craft area, and games. Call the Community Center (256-4711) and sign up! Volunteering for this event qualifies as community service time and volunteers receive a letter.

Memorial Day Parade |

The annual Memorial Day parade is on the last Monday in May at 10:00 am. The parade steps off from Kirtland High School. The parade proceeds south on Route 306 and concludes at the Kirtland Veterans Memorial, located between the Library and City Hall. Scout groups and children are invited to attend with or without decorated bicycles. A ceremony is held at the Veterans Memorial as well as at the North and South Cemeteries. The community is invited to the Community Center pavilion afterwards for a hot dog cookout, provided by the Veterans Association.

This class is for Kirtland teens who will be babysitting this summer and want to learn the basics of sound childcare. The class covers the business aspect of babysitting, age appropriate activities, and staying safe while in charge of small children. The Kirtland Fire Department teaches basic first aid, injury prevention, and what to do in emergency situations. This class is only offered once a year prior to summer vacation.

Safety Town is a national safety awareness program designed to teach young children how to prevent accidents and how to react in dangerous situations. It is intended for children who are entering kindergarten or first grade in the fall. Safety Town is one week from 9:00-11:30 a.m. each day with a graduation ceremony and family picnic on the last day. Parents and participants are invited to meet and greet the instructor and staff of Safety Town prior to the first class if they feel their child will benefit from an early introduction to the program and classroom setting.

Junior Olympics |

Kirtland children ages 7-14 are invited to participate in the annual Junior Olympics Track and Field Meet. The meet includes traditional track and field events. Supervised practices are held prior to the event to teach kids specific event techniques. First place finishers in each event and age group qualify to compete in the county meet. The city meet is typically on the Saturday, the weekend before Father’s Day at the Kirtland High School track. The county meet is on the last Wednesday in June.
A CALL FOR COACHES! The Recreation Department is in need of a dozen high school students (9th grade and higher, with some track and field knowledge) to help with Jr. Olympics at the practices and on the day of the meet. Coaches receive community service time upon completion of the program. Contact the Community Center at 440-256-4711 to sign up!

Adventure week is a co-ed day camp offering traditional camping experiences within Kirtland. Activities include archery, challenge course, canoeing, wall climbing, cooking, games, fishing, hiking, swimming and tennis.

The Community and Senior Center is hosting a Halloween carnival for preschoolers, parents, and grandparents (and even great grandparents!). The event will include carnival games, kid tattoos, and snacks. Kids will get to decorate a trick or treat bag to take home and may wear a costume if they like.
Our annual Senior Center Open House will also be taking place. Adults 55 and better are encouraged to stop by with or without grandchildren and see what the Senior Center has to offer. We will provide information on our programs and activities as well as a free snack and seated massage.
